Coding Help Post 01

Hello everyone! Thanks to everyone who's posted already, and helped get this community off the ground. Also, I'd like to introduce my new co-admin [personal profile] advancing, who will be helping me make sure that everything is running smoothly!

Now, since coding can be tricky and there are a lot of people still learning the ropes of how to code pages on DW, we're introducing a monthly Coding Help Post, of which this is the first! These posts will go up on the first of every month, and here you can:

  • Ask for help with some code that you're working on
  • Ask if anyone might be willing to code something for you (only one request per person, please)
  • Ask if how a code could be modified to work on DW
  • Ask any other questions you might have about coding on DW

We also have a list of Guides to Coding on Dreamwidth for your reference.

If you're willing to help with coding at all, keep an eye out on the comments to this post and help out where you can. And on that note, you may now all ask your questions!

Some news: bgcolor now appears to work in tables on profile codes - I haven't tested it in any posts yet and as far as I know Dreamwidth hasn't said anything officially about it, but it looks like they're allowing this bit of code to work.

... text alignment formatting doesn't stack in profiles, does it.

Most specifically, I wanted something centered, but also 'justified' in the center to make the lines on both sides nice and even.

I can get it in an entry, but can't get it on a profile. Many psyduck emotes ensue.

I... believe it does, actually. Since my profile is centered itself.

I just do normal <*center*> instead of doing the <*p align=center*> thing, so perhaps that might be what's throwing you off?

Well, it seems to go opposite for me. I can get it to center (via that code, even), but I can't get it to justify... and when I do put it in to justify... it negates the center positioning. So I have to delete the justify and it'll work. (and if I delete the center positioning, the justify still works)

... Does everything have to be re-justified if they're in table cells?

Firstly, I apologize for how long it's taken me to reply to you.

Secondly, what I normally do is do the centering outside of the table if I know I want to justify something on the page, which you can see here in the text area.

No that's alright! It's nothing that's really in a rush. Thank you for your time and help, in fact.

It's been so helpful, in fact, I think I've gotten it. For now, which was my biggest table-flipping issue as of yet. Looking over that code (and a few others) is really helping to teach me how to uh... organize and put things together. Because lord knows I'm awful at this HTML thing.

If I want to center an image in an entry, will <*img style="align:center;"*> work?

(Boo, raw-code HTML tag didn't work.)

Not sure if this post is still being used, but I'm not sure where else to look. I'm trying to make a cr chart over here, and ran into a few obvious snags. The top left one functions fine, but when I started playing around with moving the text box (top right) and with making the circle clickable to reveal the text (bottom right), it got all messed up. I tried playing with margins, but it didn't do anything. Any help would be super appreciated!

Here's the code:

Oh cool! Thanks, I didn't realize that that was intended as part of the comm. I'll go throw up a post, and see if anyone else can spot my error. :D
