Challenge #2: Pets of Fandom
Loosely defined! Post about your pets, pets from your canon, anything you want!
I just finished SPY×FAMILY S01 recently and started watching S02. Before starting the series, I already knew about the different members of the Forger family via fandom osmosis but what I didn't know was how horrible Bond's backstory is 🙃 I literally started to tear up when they showed us a flashback of what Bond went through before he even ended up with the terrorist group we saw him with at the start. I also, for some reason, almost started crying when he and Anya fought because he got jealous of her penguin plushie.
I'm so happy that this big boi was adopted by the Forger family and is now living his best life. Excited to see more of him in S02! In conclusion, please enjoy this compilation video of Bond's borfs from S01:

Jan. 4th, 2026 02:24 pmTo me, the issue is not so much about the validity of music criticism—it’s that as both consumers and music fans, we have increasingly little space to criticize publicly without that critique being conflated with an attack on an artist’s identity or worldview.
The article is mostly about music criticism, but the discussion can be applied to any form of media.
In my personal experience, I was also significantly touchier about anyone criticizing my beloved media (even when it was obviously in good faith or just a discussion on personal preferences) when my mental health wasn't at its best.

Snowflake Challenge 2026 - Challenge 2: Pets of Fandom
Jan. 3rd, 2026 12:32 pmChallenge #2: Pets of Fandom
Loosely defined! Post about your pets, pets from your canon, anything you want!

[Image Description: A gray and white "tuxedo" cat. The picture is a close-up on her head, which is turned so that three-quarters of her face is towards the camera. She's got yellow-green eyes that are fixed on something in the distance.]
^that was my Raina. She's been gone many years now, and I've gotten used to life without a cat, but that doesn't mean I still don't miss her. I still, at times, find myself chanting her name to calm myself down when I'm anxious.

[Image Description: A photo of a young calico kitty. She's standing on a large windowsill, her face turned to look at something off screen to the right. Her tail is upright at attention and curled to the left.]
I would be remiss if I didn't include a picture of 20 minute kitty. This was a neighbor's cat who came up to our patio door, so we let her in for a while. I was ewcited! Mom, less so. Unfortunately the experience solidified her as an anti-cat person, and since I live with her, I have to go without one.

[Image Description: A picture of my sister's dog, Charms. She's a black Labrador and is at attention because I called her name before taking the photo.]
I watch Charms sometimes when my sister goes on vacations. I am NOT a dog person, but as dogs go, Charms is pretty good. We're used to each other now, so it mostly goes smoothly. Why is she named Charms? because she had a brother named Lucky.
Okay, so I can't have a real cat, but I can knit cats!

[Image Description: Two realistic knitted kitties, shown from the front. They are both "tuxedo" cats, with one orange and the other gray.]
I've misplaced them, alas. I really should find them again and perch them on my bed because they ARE a calming presence. They're even more realistic from the rear:

[Image Description: Two realistic knitted tuxedo kitties, shown from the back. They are gray and orange, and look very much like the classic "kitty loaf".]
When I first started playing Final Fantasy XIV, I was skeptical of the whole minion thing (minions are small critters that follow you around.) I mean, we had nothing like that in Final Fantasy XI and still enjoyed that game! So I admit that I thought the idea of minions to be a little silly.
Then
Animated gif of the Fat Cat minion rolling about under cut!

[Image Description: The Fat Cat minion from Final Fantasy XIV. She's a plump calico cat and likes to roll around.]
I've been playing FFXIV for years now, and no longer use Fat Cat as my minion. Now I use Starbird:

[Image Description: The Starbird Minion from Final Fantasy XIV. It's a blue bird with gray beak and white belly. It's got really long dual tails and large wings.]
The reason I use Starbird? She plays a big role in Endwalker, the first expansion that I played live at its launch. Also, I ran the dungeon Starbird comes from SO MUCH. So, so many times until she finally dropped for me. Can't imagine using a different minion now.
I want to end with a game I played in 2024 that I really, really enjoyed. That game is Stray, in which you play as an orange street cat. I really enjoyed it! The cat does cat things like scratch at furniture and knock things over, but you do this as a way to explore the world and solve puzzles. There's some action sequences where you need to escape from enemies, but I found them all short enough that I didn't mind having to try them over and over (I am not great at action games!).
Anyway, have a clip from the game:

Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios
Jan. 3rd, 2026 01:37 pm
Personal rating 8/10
A reimagining of Batman where Bruce is Yohualli Coatl, the son of a noble Aztec family in 16th-century Mesoamerica. The movie blends history with fiction, with Hernán Cortés (Two-Face) and the Spanish conquistadors standing as the story's main villains. Members of Batman's rogues gallery make appearances as well, their backstories tweaked to suit the setting.
I was going to watch this no matter what—a Batman movie where he's a character of color fighting against conquistadors??—and I'm happy to report that I had a great time! Right out the gate we have Toltecatzin (Thomas Wayne) side-eyeing Cortés for calling Mexico "the new world," saying that "Many suns have already passed since our people first knew these lands." Amazing.
( Cut for length and spoilers. )
Random stuff:
- I didn't do a liveblog, but I did post some screenshots on Bluesky.
- I think this would've benefited from being a mini-series instead of a movie. I don't mind timeskips, but I think the story needed just a bit more breathing room. The Yohualli/Mujer Jaguar angle especially. They're cute and I ship it! But I would've liked more development.

Challenge #1: The Icebreaker Challenge
Introduce yourself. Tell us why you're doing the challenge, and what you hope to gain from it.
Hi, I'm Bear! I'm a 30-something Filipina (she/her), who's been active in fandom since the 2000s. I've been reading and writing fanfic since I started being fannish, and I have a couple of ancient fanarts squirreled away on my computer. My intro post has a bit more information on where else you can find me on the internet.
I've participated in the
snowflake_challenge for the last few years though I skipped it in 2025. Considering the new wave of users that recently joined Dreamwidth, I thought the challenge would be a good way to reach out, meet new people, and hopefully make new friends!
Thanks for dropping by 👋🏽
End of year fic meme 2025
Jan. 1st, 2026 11:55 pmEnd of year fic meme (plus a bonus question)
Fics Posted This Year: 35 (1 is currently hidden at AO3 for fandomtrees) Here's my 2025 tag at
Total word count: 10,357
Fandoms written in: Charmed Reboot, Doc, MCU, SkyMed, Wednesday, X-Men '97, X-Men Movieverse, X-Men Comics, X-Men: Evolution
Fandoms I wouldn't have expected to write this year: Pretty much all of it since it's been a few years since I've written anything but I would say especially the Charmed Reboot, Doc, SkyMed and Wednesday.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?: Since I haven't written this much fic since 2011 (which was my last "high" year with only 29 works, 2016 only had 9 and I haven't actually written a fic in five years back in 2020), yeah I'd say I'd written more fic than I thought I would.
What's your own favourite story of the year?: I think it's a tie between Alpine (MCU, Bucky/Wanda & Billy & Tommy), Kissed by Flames (X-Men: Evolution, Amara/Jean), and Gloves Off (X-Men: Evolution, Rogue/Scott). Alpine because I love writing domestic fluff for Bucky & Wanda, and it was unexpected (as was how much I fell for the ship, although maybe I shouldn't have been surprised since I do love both characters). Kissed by Flames is because I've been wanting to either write a Amara/Jean fic, or read one since one of the last times I rewatched Evolution so to finally make one was amazing. Gloves Off because one my favorite things about Falling Slowly (my Rogue/Scott fic) was the idea that I had that she and Scott would have solo Danger Room sessions and it felt AMAZING writing Rogue/Scott again for the first time in years.
My best story of this year: I have no idea.... maybe one of the above under favorites?
Most popular story of this year: Believe it or not my Wednesday/Tyler drabble I love you has the most kudos (29), my Doc Amy/Jake drabbles Love Token (14 kudos) & Coffee (13 kudos) have the second and third highest kudos.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I have no idea, honestly, I wrote a lot of rare pairings this year and most of my stuff is drabbles so it's kinda understandable for people to pass them by. Plus for my MCU & X-Men related stuff, those are huge fandoms, so they probably just got lost in the shuffle of AO3.
Most fun story to write: Definitely a tie between Alpine (MCU, Bucky/Wanda & Billy & Tommy) and Baking Cookies (MCU, Wanda & Billy & Tommy), I think I enjoyed them because it was just mostly domestic fluff & humor.
Sexiest story/story with the single sexiest moment: I wouldn't say sexist story, but it's what I meant for His Lighter (XMM, Pyro/Jean) and also for Blizzards & Christmas (MCU, Betty/Darcy), both just kinda hint of what was to come.
Hardest story to write: I would say Coffee (Doc, Jake/Amy) mainly because I struggled with trying to find a song of Chappell Roan that I could use for the fic challenge, where I needed to write fic inspired by a song and I wanted to do one by her because at the time I was kinda obsessed-ly playing/listening to her album and didn't want to use another artist - I already knew I wanted to try my hand at Amy/Jake so that part was easy. I just took tiny lines out her "Coffee" songs to influence the drabble. Technically Amy drinks some sort of ice coffee type thing but it's actually important clue for her early in the show for their relationship so I'm actually proud of tying the story to the song.
Did you take any writing risks this year?: Uh, no? Other than actually trying & sitting down to write something? Or I guess I wrote several rare pairings (MCU: Darcy/Jessica, Darcy/Betty, Matt/Jessica, Bucky/Wanda, Bucky/Mel, Bucky/Yelena, Bob/John, Kate/Yelena | X-Men: Kitty/Wanda, Emma/Madelyne, Madelyne/Scott, Jean/Wanda, Jean/Pyro, Tabitha/Scott, Ororo/Scott, Scott/Rogue | Doc: Amy/Jake | SkyMed: Hayley/Wheezer). I think technically my Abigael/Mel (Charmed Reboot) wouldn't be considered a rare pairing, since it's in the top five of the Charmed Reboot fandom, but apparently that ship only has less than 200 works on AO3, and that fandom is fucking small geez. Only my Wednesday/Tyler (Wednesday) drabble would probably be the only non-rare pairing I did this year.
Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?: Write more. Write more than just drabbles hopefully. Complete a few tables at least. I want to try my hand at more rare pairings that I like and hope people like them too. Maybe join a "Big Bang". I also like to work on the stories listed in the next question.
Stories I haven't yet written, but intend to:
I want to write the next part of first words spoken (can open a heart), my Supergirl (TV series) Kara Danvers/Maxwell Lord Season 1 Soulmates rewrite AU fic series. I keep putting it off and it's apparently already been five years since the last one. I don't know what it is about the next few episodes/back half of Season 1 to write about.
I also want to work on the sequel to Falling Slowly. It's only been 15 years (oh god that makes me weird and utterly sad). I don't what it is about Seasons 3 & 4 of XME that just kinda stops me from writing for it. Same thing seems to be happening with me for my Kara/Maxwell Season 1 Soulmates rewrite AU.
Like I said above, I'd love to work on more rarer pairings in my fandoms but I also want to work in a few fandoms I haven't touched yet (besides reading fics or reblogging gifs on tumblr).
Stories I have started writing, but never finished:
I would love to work on my WIP Hearts and Souls fic (only the cover art was ever posted). I think I might just need Heart and Souls (1993 film) refresh watch and I could probably finish it. I have over 16k words written for it so far.
My Big Wolf on Campus fic "Wolf Pups" which is a Becky/Tommy fic no one asked for but me. It has over 6k words so far and probably about halfway done? Maybe? I don't know, haven't read it in awhile.
I might have a few other WIP fics that are on my computer that I'd like to finish or that I completely forgot about. I think I just always gets stuck at the re-reading & editing stage for those.
Fannish 50 2026 plus other challenges
Jan. 1st, 2026 10:40 pmI also signed up for
I haven't quite decided if I'll participate in a 2026 Big Bang yet, which would definitely help with the word count challenge. If any, I'd probably lean towards the
I did find out that
I am thinking of joining
Plus of course I want to work on the tables I've already gathered. I'd at least like to finish a couple of them this year at least.
[Fannish 50 #1] Pine Point: Insomniac
Jan. 1st, 2026 07:57 pmYou’re Nil.
Fishing at Lost Lake, trashing the popular kids’ cars, and playing in your shitty garage band are all things you’d rather be doing than working a dead-end job that will probably keep you trapped in Pine Point for the rest of your life.
Fortunately, you get to work alongside your best friend, Dimitri. Unfortunately, Dimitri is leaving town at the end of the summer… and you’re not.

signal boosting! BACK UP YOUR LJ!
Jan. 1st, 2026 03:45 pmposted by
"I just posted a thread to my Bluesky account about why I think it's extremely urgent for people to back up anything they still have on LiveJournal, however they do it. Thread starts here:
https://bsky.app/profile/rahaeli.bsky.social/post/3mbebi2xfxc25
ru-news LJ post I was relying on:
https://ru-news.livejournal.com/80899.html
Please spread this far and wide so as many people see it as possible, because I really don't see English-language LJ continuing in its present form for much longer, and I know some people may still have things they care about there. It doesn't matter how you get it backed up, but it's absolutely crunch time for getting it backed up."
My old xnera account was still hanging around LJ, even though I long ago imported here and stopped crossposting. I just logged into it and saved the few images I had in storage. I then deleted the account. Was long overdue.
I had other accounts on LJ, but can't remember most of them. Oh well. Nothing in those accounts were vitally important, unlike my personal journal.
Snowflake Challenge #1

Challenge #1
The Icebreaker Challenge: Introduce yourself. Tell us why you're doing the challenge, and what you hope to gain from it.
Snowflake again, hello! This is my third year participating in this challenge because I just think it's kind of neat haha, I always end up falling off pretty early on but I think participating in the first place is what matters :D
I have an intro post here (which I did for Snowflake '24) that I will update at some point now that the challenge has kicked off again. Either way, I'm eli and I like miscellaneous fandom stuff. My current obsessions are TTRPG related, mostly Vampire: The Masquerade and Call of Cthulhu, and include actual play podcasts as well as engaging in the lore in other ways. But I also flit from fandom to fandom and have a hefty collection I come back to every once in a while :)
I'm doing this challenge because I like the journaling aspect of participating! I can never seem to stick to a consistent journaling schedule so having the challenge as an excuse to start up again is always good, and it gives me a little boost for the start of the year and reminds me to get back to things I wanted to get done but kept putting off due to... time scheduling stuff. Alas, real life gets in the way of fun things <(_ _)>
Anyway, hopefully I'll be able to come back to this challenge a couple more times, here's to a good start for 2026!
